Part 1 ( 1 June 2025 - Video Recording)

  1. Introduction to SPSS

What is SPSS and when to use it

Overview of quantitative research & data types

SPSS interface: Data View vs Variable View

File types: .sav, .csv, .xls

Activity: Explore SPSS environment with sample dataset

  1. Preparing and Importing Data (1 hour)

Data coding: nominal, ordinal, scale

Defining variables and values

Importing data from Excel

Cleaning data: missing values, outliers

Activity: Import and prepare a sample dataset

Part 2: This Week

  1. Descriptive Statistics (1 hour)

Frequency tables and percentages

Mean, median, mode, SD

Charts: bar, pie, histogram

Activity: Analyze demographic data and visualize findings

  1. Testing for Normality (30 mins)

Importance of checking normal distribution

Kolmogorov-Smirnov & Shapiro-Wilk tests

Skewness & kurtosis interpretation

Activity: Conduct normality test on key variables
  1. Reliability and Validity Testing (1 hour)

Cronbach’s Alpha for internal consistency

Factor analysis (Intro level)
Activity: Test the reliability of a scale (e.g., Likert-based questionnaire)

  1. Inferential Statistics (2 hours)

Pearson vs Spearman

Interpreting strength & direction
